To many people working in financial services today, the word “innovation” actually sounds a lot like “risk”— at best a waste of time on things that aren’t proven, and at worst something that could put the company in harm's way, not to mention raise the ire of bosses and regulators alike. Our guest on April 16th thinks it’s time to change that mindset.
JP Nicols says that innovation is really just about finding new ways to create favorable business outcomes, and that businesses that aren’t moving forward are moving backward. JP will talk about the surprising ways that the future of the banking industry has been forever changed, and it actually has very little to do with the global financial crisis, Basel III or Dodd Frank. JP has been quoted as saying “The banking industry was basically undefeated for the past few hundred years because it won all of its games by default”. Those days are over, and all sorts of asymmetric non-bank competitors are seriously beginning to disrupt the old world order.
We will talk about the disruptive forces that are changing the banking business as we know it, how we’re really just in the early stages of this disruption and most importantly, what banks have to do to remain relevant in this rapidly changing landscape.
