Recently, Eric Cook was asked to present at the 2009 Concepts '09 conference for The Payments Authority. This was their annual conference and for those of you who may not be familiar with The Payments Authority, they are the governing organization that oversees and works with financial institutions and companies throughout Michigan on automated clearing house (ACH) transactions. This entails all the automatic payments you have processed to your bank account and such things like direct deposit for your paycheck.
This year they wanted to close the conference with a talk on how financial institutions and companies in general can better connect with Generation Y with things like social networking sites. In this episode of Free Webinar Wednesdays, Eric will recap his presentation and help uncover opportunities for businesses to get some ideas on how to use these tools to enhance relationships with this generation (and others using these types of tools).
Below is the video that Eric opened his talk with and you may want to view this before attending the session, since videos don't seem to some through very well via GoToWebinar. Certainly sets the stage for where things are headed.

On this webinar we referred to Technorati. For those of you that want more information the website is: http://technorati.com/
We also referred to what a great job Landmark bank has done using video to promote their brand. Here are links to blog posts Eric Cook prepared featuring the videos:

I wanted to offer some clarification on Slide #26 (Blogging Etiquette) for items #8 (Put Others First) and #10 (Leverage Talent).
Put Others First
When you have a blog, much like a successful website, you need to understand that it's about the visitor and what THEY want, not necessarily what YOU want as a business owner. Because of this, it's crucial that you put the needs, wants and interests of the reader first. Otherwise, if you are not meeting their expectations they likely will stop reading and not come back.
Leverage Talent
Over time, your blog will hopefully become successful and start taking more of your time. If you try to do the entire blogging process yourself, you'll quickly become overwhelmed, frustrated and likely stop the process. Starting and then stopping is worse than not starting in the first place because it conveys an air of "failure". So, what I propose is before you even post blog entry one, you'll want to survey your employees and maybe even your business partners to see what talent already exists. Maybe there's someone in your organization that's already writing for the local newspaper or church bulletin that could adapt what they are saying or your blog. You'll want to make sure that your staff is aware of what you're going to be doing and you may just be surprised at who comes to the front of the line and offers to help.
Hope this helps. I enjoyed the session and appreciate you all listening to me and my presentation. Holler if there are any other questions.
