In past FWW sessions we've tried to bring our audience content and ideas that can help to make an impact on their business life one way or another. Whether we are talking about ways to use social media more effectively to generate relationships or offering some thoughts on tools or strategies to help differentiate yourself from the competition or save time, our sessions mostly have been with some sort of "business" end goal (like increased sales or cost savings) in mind. However, this week that's going to change and we're going to ask you to concentrate on something called the "greater good".
In this week's session we're going to be joined by Patricia Tallungan, the founder and president of the Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation to talk about the foundation she started ten years ago when her son Nick lost his battle to this rare form of cancer. While certainly a blow to Patricia, the family and friends of her son, the foundation was created with the end goal of making sure that some day families wouldn't have to endure the tragedy of losing a child to this disease. Over $1.5 million later, the CNCF has helped countless families over the years by holding conferences and supporting research efforts to find a cure.
FWW founder, Eric Cook, has somewhat of a personal connection to the CNCF as one of his close friends lost their daughter, Christi Thomas, to this disease at the tender age of 9 and he was so inspired by Christi's courage that he created Pedaling with a Purpose and has helped to raise close to $25,000 for the CNCF through cycling over the past few years. While it's not $1.5 million (yet), the fact is that one little girl inspired Eric to figure out a way to try and make a difference, and involved the sport that he loved in the process. Right now FWW has almost 400 subscribers (398 to be exact) and if each of them committed to accomplishing just a fraction of this, we'd be able to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthy causes!
It's the hope that after this session you'll not only have a better understanding of what the CNCF is (and how you can help them if you wish), but come away with a greater sense of looking to how you can help others and make a difference in the world and the lives of others. We all know times are challenging and budtets are tight, but reaching beyond yourself - especially now - can fulfill the soul by helping others and making a difference. We hope you are able to join us for this eye-opening session and decide to make a difference in 2010.
About the CNCF
The Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation (CNCF) www.nbhope.org was established in 2000 by the family and friends of Nick Tallungan. In April of 1999 at the age of 10, Nick lost his courageous battle with Neuroblastoma. One brave child motivated us to make a difference – for all families affected by this disease.
Today, CNCF is a foundation representing hundreds of global families. Our mission: to help fund a cure. Through the generous donations of the business community, families and friends, we create resources for families, educate the public and drive greater awareness – and funding – for Neuroblastoma. We provide a forum for patients and families to share their experiences. National educational programs bring together clinicians, researchers and medical experts to support our mission.
