What do Robin Williams' daughter (Zelda), actress Leslie Jones and Taylor Swift all have in common? They have been the victims of cyberbullying and have been attacked online. While most of these attacks take place on Twitter, largely due to the anonymity that is available to the "trolls" that take things too far, it's by no means the only place where this type of digital attack can happen. We've seen SMS text messages, Facebook posts, blog sites, Instagram comments... the list goes on.
While to many the prevalence of bullying can be seen as a juvenile thing and something that kids do to one another, there is a real problem with adults participating in the harassment (even in the workplace). But with the global reach of the Internet, the lack of prosecution for offenders and unclarity on what the punishment "should be" for those that are doing the harassment, the reality of cyberbullying is an unfortunate reality that we have to deal with if you're going to use technology and social media.
