With so many sensitive and potentially controversial issues now part of our daily lives, having easily accessible and broadly distributed platforms on social media can certainly complicate matters when it comes to expressing your personal opinions that may not be to the liking of others.
While the concept of freedom of speech is one that protects most of what we say, it's important to at least give consideration to how your words and opinions could be perceived by your customers, and even your employer, in today's online environment.
On this week’s show I'm being joined by my good friend Deborah Gonzalez. A practicing attorney focused on social media and entertainment law, Deborah and I have been good friends for a number of years and recently have had several discussions around blowback that employers have had to face in direct response to their employees going online and sharing personal opinions via social media. It's important to note that our webinar is NOT intended to provide legal advice, as we will be talking about the big picture and the conceptual ideas only.
That being said, I'm expecting our discussion to be very eye-opening and thought-provoking, as this topic likely has entered your discussions with staff (and if not, it likely will very soon). You’ll be one step closer to at least setting the stage for what sorts of resources you should be identifying to provide assistance in making sure you're not going to get yourself (or your employees) in trouble.
